Realistic 2026 bookkeeping price ranges for a Finnish sole trader and limited company, the cost drivers behind a quote, and the questions to ask an accounting firm.

For a small business in Finland, bookkeeping in 2026 commonly costs from roughly EUR 70 per month for a very simple sole trader to EUR 500 or more for an active limited company with payroll. The meaningful figure is the annual total: monthly bookkeeping, software, payroll, financial statements, tax return and exception work.

The ranges below reflect public Finnish accounting-firm price lists reviewed on 1 July 2026. They are market guidance, not quotations, and prices are normally stated excluding VAT.

Typical monthly ranges

Business situationRealistic monthly rangeUsually covers
Small toiminimi, 1โ€“20 documents, no payrollEUR 70โ€“140 + VATPeriodic bookkeeping, routine VAT if registered, basic reporting
Active toiminimi, 20โ€“60 documentsEUR 100โ€“250 + VATMonthly bookkeeping, VAT filing and normal communication
Receipt-heavy sole trader or online sellerEUR 200โ€“400 + VATMore matching, payment-service work and integrations
Small Oy, 1โ€“25 documents, no employeesEUR 150โ€“250 + VATDouble-entry bookkeeping, VAT and reporting; year-end may be separate
Oy with 25โ€“100 documents and owner salaryEUR 220โ€“500 + VATBookkeeping, VAT, payroll reporting and month-end reports
Oy with several employees or many invoicesEUR 400โ€“900+ + VATPayroll, ledgers, reconciliations and more advisory work

Possible additions include a EUR 100โ€“300 setup fee, payroll at around EUR 15โ€“30 per payslip, software and transaction charges, and a separate year-end fee. A simple annual financial statement and return may be a few hundred euros, while a company with old open items, inventory or complex financing costs more.

What actually drives the price?

Documents and exceptions

Ten transactions with correctly matched documents are not the same workload as ten transactions requiring reminders and explanations. Ask what the firm counts as a document or transaction: an invoice, bank event, receipt and journal entry may be priced differently.

VAT and international activity

A company with VAT-liable turnover above EUR 20,000 in a calendar year is generally required to register for Finnish VAT. Filing frequency, multiple VAT rates, EU sales, reverse charge, imports and restricted deductions all add review work.

A small toiminimi can have lighter administration. An Oy is a separate legal person and normally requires double-entry records, formal financial statements and clear treatment of salary, dividends, shareholder loans and equity.

Payroll

Payroll includes withholding, employer obligations and Incomes Register reportingโ€”not merely a bank transfer. Check whether owner salary, employee payroll, benefits and expense reimbursements are included.

Year-end and tax return

A low monthly price may exclude the largest annual task. Ask whether financial statements, the corporate or business tax return, meeting documents and year-end corrections are included or billed separately.

Software and material quality

Some firms bundle software; others charge the licence, e-invoices, bank connection and transactions separately. Late, incomplete material creates additional human work even when the nominal transaction volume is low.

Budgets for four common cases

  1. Side-business toiminimi: 8โ€“15 documents, no staff and simple VAT. Budget about EUR 70โ€“130 per month plus VAT and possibly EUR 150โ€“300 for the annual return.
  2. Full-time VAT-registered toiminimi: 25โ€“50 documents and basic advice. Budget roughly EUR 120โ€“250 per month plus VAT.
  3. One-person consulting Oy: 10โ€“30 documents and a monthly owner salary. Budget around EUR 180โ€“320 per month plus VAT; confirm year-end and payroll.
  4. Growing small Oy: 60โ€“120 documents, two to five payslips and monthly reporting. Budget roughly EUR 400โ€“800 per month plus VAT.

How to compare quotations

Request the same scenario from each firm and ask:

  • Which document and transaction volumes are included?
  • Are VAT filing, payroll, software and bank connections included?
  • Are financial statements and the tax return included?
  • How and when must the material be delivered?
  • What happens when receipts are missing or late?
  • How much advice is included?
  • When is the fixed price reviewed?

Compare the twelve-month total, not the headline month. A EUR 180 monthly package plus a EUR 600 year-end fee costs the same annually as a EUR 230 package that includes the year-end.

Keeping the cost under control

Use one document channel, capture receipts immediately, separate business and personal spending, explain exceptional payments and ask the accountant before a new employee, vehicle, foreign trade or large acquisition changes the process. Good material quality is one of the few price factors the client controls directly.

Cheap bookkeeping becomes expensive when service limits are unclear, reports arrive too late to help, missing evidence triggers repeated work or year-end items appear as surprises. The best quotation makes both partiesโ€™ responsibilities visible.
